Cut stems to encourage branching. Cuttings root easily. Remove dead rosettes after flowering.

Repotting

Monocarpic - the flowering rosette dies after blooming. Takes several years to flower.

Propagation Methods

  • Stem cuttings - root easily in soil
  • Individual rosettes with stem attached
  • Let cuttings dry for 2-3 days before planting

Common Problems

  • Dropping leaves in summer: Normal dormancy behavior
  • Leggy growth: Not enough light
  • Closed rosettes: Conserving water during dormancy - normal
  • Root rot: Too much water, especially in summer

Pro Tips

  • Remember: winter grower, summer dormant - opposite of most succulents
  • Dark varieties need more sun to maintain color
  • Protect from temperatures below 40F (4C)
  • Rosettes naturally close during dormancy - don't overwater
